Why does full lining matter in a luxury abaya?

Full lining makes an abaya more opaque, smoother against the body and better at holding its shape. It also protects the inner seams and helps the outer fabric fall without catching on what you wear beneath.

What should seams, hems and hardware look like?

On a well-made abaya, seams run straight, stitches are small and even, and raw edges are enclosed rather than left to fray. Turn the abaya inside out; the inside of a premium piece is almost as tidy as the outside.

1. Seams: no puckering along the shoulder or side seams, and no loose threads.
2. Hems: an even depth all around, pressed flat, with the hemline level when worn.
3. Sleeves: cuffs finished to the same standard as the body.

How can you tell hand embroidery and hand-finishing?

Hand embroidery shows slight, natural variation from stitch to stitch, with a raised texture and a clean reverse, while machine embroidery is perfectly uniform and often backed with stiff interfacing. Look closely where the embroidery begins and ends; careful hand work is secured neatly rather than cut off abruptly.
